Morris Psychological Services
Stephen Morris is a licensed and experienced Psychotherapist who has been providing psychotherapy services in Houston and SW Texas for over 10 years. He has worked in local hospitals, residential treatment facilities, CPS, and other psychiatric facilities. In addition to being fully licensed, he possesses a master’s degree in counseling and a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling. Currently he is working on a doctoral thesis regarding the lived experience of Bariatric patients. At Morris Psychological Services, our theoretical orientation is the cognitive behavioral approach whereby we believe that positive and desired change can be accomplished by changing one's cognitions, thoughts and beliefs. Our philosophy of care is that we believe that therapy is most effective when a spirit of collaboration exists between patient and therapist and when the patient is an active participant in the treatment. Our clinicians have expertise in the following areas: marriage/family issues, blended families, children/adolescent/teen psychosocial issues, IVF issues, LGBTQ issues, bereavement and loss issues, eating disorders, self esteem development issues, and bariatric surgery issues.
I have over a decade’s worth of counseling experience in a variety of settings and almost 20 years of experience as a professional counselor
I have a private office for LPC Intern (eligible) to attain clinical experience, if interested. You would be on a contract basis and NOT an employee of mine. I would be your supervisor; we would meet weekly for individual supervision and/or group supervision according to the Texas Administrative Code. I will consult with you regarding marketing, networking, and referrals.
Whenever possible, I perform site visits where an internship is taking place.
When possible, I also review the intern’s case notes to improve documentation and to monitor ethical compliance.
I am dedicated to providing the intern with real-world counseling advice on topics such as, dealing with subpoenas, possible ethical & legal issues that may arise in practice, issues to consider when practicing in inpatient settings, private practice, and for-profits/non-profits, how to do a thorough initial evaluation, giving a diagnosis and cautions that are associated with certain diagnoses, how to become an insurance provider, how to fill out insurance paperwork, and how to network and advertise yourself as a counselor.
I counsel and supervise from an educational perspective while using a variety of theories, including cognitive-behavioral and family systems. I see supervision as a collaborative effort and that interns are treated as equals.
My one low monthly supervision fee includes weekly sessions, handouts, networking opportunities, and group supervision, when feasible. There is no fee for the initial meeting with me and the Intern does not start to pay the supervision fee until the Intern has received his/her license.
